About Art - Pomodoro Sculpture

The Sphere Within A Sphere (Sfera Con Sfera in Italian) is a series of outdoor artwork by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.

He was born on June 23, 1926, in Morciano, Romagna, Italy. He currently lives and works in Milan. His brother, GiĆ² Pomodoro (1930-1993) was also a sculptor.

Some of Pomodoro's "Sphere Within Sphere" (Sfera con Sfera) can be seen in the Vatican Museums, Trinity College, Dublin, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the University of California, Berkeley.

In 1999 he founded Fondazione Pomodoro in Milan. Originally conceived as a centre to document and archive the work of the artist, it opened an exhibition space in 2005, hosting exhibitions of prominent artists such as Jannis Kounellis. The director of Fondazione Pomodoro is Flaminio Gualdoni.

The sphere in the photograph is the one found at Trinity College. Trinity is located in the centre of Dublin, Ireland, on College Green opposite the former Irish Houses of Parliament (now a branch of the Bank of Ireland). The campus occupies 47 acres (190,000 m²), with many buildings, both old and new, ranged around large courts (known as "squares") and two playing fields.
